Endurmenntun, Dunhaga 7.
In cooperation with the Icelandic Association of CBT
The workshop is a part of the specialized program in cognitive behavioral therapy. Taught in English.
This workshop will explore an integrated approach to the treatment of depression. In this context, integrated means drawing on 1st, 2nd and 3rd wave CBT therapies so that individual patients have an emphasis on experimentation, activation, acceptance, compassion and/or mindfulness to the degree needed to overcome their particular mood disorder.
Integration is achieved using a self-regulation model of depression that views depression as a consequence of self-identity disruption with associated dysregulation of motivation, action, reflection, memory and goal-orientation systems.
In practice, the model generates ten treatment components that are combined in a unique sequence and amount, tailored to the needs of the individual client. For example, some clients need a therapy with a strong behavioural emphasis, while others need help to process intrusive memories. In Self-Regulation CBT (SR-CBT), the case formulation determines the treatment emphasis, not a standardised protocol delivered to all.
This approach can be used with any client suffering from major depression, however, it has been developed particularly for clients who have difficult-to-treat and/or complex mood disorders. Straightforward cases need a regular course of treatment (16 sessions, 4 months), while complex cases need a higher intensity treatment (up to 30 sessions, 12 months).
What you will learn:
- How self dysregulation maintains depression
- An outline of ten treatment components with guidance how they are delivered in practice
- Case examples and demonstrations illustrating the approach
Topics covered:
