This course is designed for upper-intermediate learners who would like to improve their knowledge of and fluency in two areas of legal English: the practice of law and contracts. Learners should be students of law, or practicing in a legal profession.

Learners will focus on building proficiency in the four language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) in each of the four sessions by: - Reading standard legal documents such as memos, covenants and e-contracts and working on fluency in the technical vocabulary contained therein through a variety of vocabulary activities.
- Reading articles and texts on such topics as: bodies of law, types of law, legal education, curriculum vitae for legal professionals, contract formation and remedies, contract clauses, and types of breach; as above, learners work on fluency in the technical vocabulary contained in these articles and texts through a variety of vocabulary activitie.s
- Answering listening comprehension questions on real-life samples of legal English on such themes as court documents, law firm structure, negotiation, contract negotiation, remedies.
- Composing a job description, writing a CV, practicing legalese, writing an informative memo, composing follow-up correspondence to a client, working on a glossary of Icelandic-English terms related to the practice of law and contracts.
- Focusing on the spoken word by: explaining what a law says, describing the civil court system and a law firm, training knowledge and use of legal latin, role-playing the negotiation of an agreement, presenting on contract remedies.

The course can be taken either as a general improver/refresher course in these two areas, or as preparation for the Cambridge International Legal English Certificate (ILEC).
NOTE ON THE CAMBRIDGE EXAM: As yet it is not possible to take the ILEC exam in Iceland. This is the second time that a course of this nature has been offered in Iceland and the instructor is currently in correspondence with Cambridge University with a view to establishing Endurmenntun as a certified examination centre.
